Lemons for Limoncello – A Community Tradition
Our community Limoncello Project is back for its fourth year, and it’s grown more than we ever imagined! Last year alone, our amazing community donated over one tonne of lemons.
What makes our Limoncello special is that we make it the old-fashioned way – every single lemon is peeled by hand by our team. As the project has grown, the sheer volume of lemons has become a pretty big undertaking (there are only so many lemons we can physically peel!), while the cost of producing Limoncello has also continued to rise, including six increases to alcohol excise since we started.
Since the beginning, we’ve offered one bottle of Limoncello for every 5kg of lemons donated, with no limit. To keep the project manageable and sustainable so we can continue it for years to come, we need to make a small change.
From this year, you’ll receive one bottle of Limoncello for every 10kg of lemons donated, with a maximum of two bottles per household.
We know it’s a change from previous years and really appreciate everyone’s understanding and support. Most importantly, a huge thank you to everyone who has shared their backyard lemons with us over the past four years. We love being able to turn something that might otherwise go to waste into something special we can all enjoy together. 🍋

This year we will be receiving lemons from people who live within the 3195 Postcode during Barrel Room opening hours on 4-6 Sept.

LEMON DONATION GUIDELINES🍋
To make sure your lemons are perfect for our Limoncello, please check the following:
Homegrown only – Lemons must be picked from your garden. No store-bought or waxed lemons.
The right variety – We accept Eureka, Sorrento and Lisbon lemons. Unfortunately, we can’t accept Meyer lemons.
Ripe & ready – Lemons should be firm, ripe and yellow, with no green patches. They also should not be over ripe.
Good condition – Please don’t bring lemons with mould, bite marks or significant blemishes.
As someone once said (well actually it was our founder Matt Houghton!) “It’s the lemons we don’t use that make our limoncello!”
