We have merged the Italian for beer (Birra) with the Italian word Amaro (Italian bitter). We wanted to create an Australian spin on a classic digestif/amaro, one where the old world and new world met, with each contributing to a sum greater than its parts. We also wanted to add an extra Boatrocker touch by distilling beer to be used for the base spirit.
From the old world we looked to classic bittering agents such as gentian root and Turkish rhubarb alongside classic flavouring botanicals such as elderflower and clove. We then built on these foundations using native Australian botanicals such as anise myrtle and wattleseed.
We believe an amaro should be beguiling, leading the senses in with complex aromas, but never being one dimensional.
Serving Suggestions: Delicious neat or on the rocks with a slice of orange, but works extremely well in a dark negroni.
